We raised over half a million dollars which will go to Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine, as well as here in Canada for newly arrived displaced persons from Ukraine.

An Albertan, Paul Wynnyk is a proud descendant of Ukrainian pioneers who came to Canada at the turn of the last century. The son of a Second World War veteran, he developed an early interest in the military, joining the local Army Cadet corps and later a Reserve unit.
Studying at both Royal Roads Military College and the Royal Military College of Canada, he was commissioned in 1986, undertaking regimental duties in both Europe and Canada.
Over the course of his career, Paul was blessed to command troops on multiple occasions, including 1 Combat Engineer Regiment from 1997 to 1999, 1 Area Support Group from 2004 to 2006, 3rd Canadian Division from 2010 to 2012, Canadian Forces Intelligence Command from 2014 to 2016, and the Canadian Army from 2016 to 2018. It was in the last appointment that that he was heavily involved in all aspects of Operation UNIFIER – Canada’s mission in Ukraine.
Paul’s overseas assignments included postings in Germany, Cambodia and the Congo. In 2009, he was posted to Afghanistan to oversee the development of the Afghan Ministry of Defense and the Afghan Army. He holds a Baccalaureate in civil engineering, Master’s degrees in both war studies and business administration, and is a registered professional engineer in the province of Alberta and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Paul is a Commander of the Order of Military Merit, a graduate of the French Commando Course, and has been decorated by the Governments of Afghanistan, Brazil, Columbia and the United States for his leadership in promoting international security and cooperation.
Paul retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff on 9 August 2019, and was appointed Deputy Minister for Municipal Affairs in Alberta on 7 October 2019.

Timothy Snyder
Timothy Snyder is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. He speaks five and reads ten European languages.
His eight chief books are Nationalism, Marxism, and Modern Central Europe: A Biography of Kazimierz Kelles-Krauz (1998); The Reconstruction of Nations: Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, 1569-1999 (2003); Sketches from a Secret War: A Polish Artist’s Mission to Liberate Soviet Ukraine (2005); The Red Prince: The Secret Lives of a Habsburg Archduke (2008); Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin (2010), Thinking the Twentieth Century (with Tony Judt, 2012); Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning (2015); On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century (2017); and The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America (2018).
He has also co-edited three further books: The Wall Around the West: State Borders and Immigration Controls in Europe and North America (2001); Stalin and Europe: Terror, War, Domination (2013); and The Balkans as Europe (2018). His essays are collected in Ukrainian History, Russian Politics, European Futures (2014), and The Politics of Life and Death (2015).
Snyder’s work has appeared in forty languages and has received a number of prizes, including the Emerson Prize in the Humanities, the Literature Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Václav Havel Foundation prize, the Foundation for Polish Science prize in the social sciences, the Leipzig Award for European Understanding, the Dutch Auschwitz Committee award, and the Hannah Arendt Prize in Political Thought.
Snyder was a Marshall Scholar at Oxford, has received the Carnegie and Guggenheim fellowships, and holds state orders from Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland.
He has appeared in documentaries, on network television, and in major films. His books have inspired poster campaigns and exhibitions, films, sculpture, a punk rock song, a rap song, a play, and an opera. His words are quoted in political demonstrations around the world, most recently in Hong Kong. He is researching a family history of nationalism and finishing a philosophical book about freedom.

Steven Page
Steven Page’s distinctive and powerful tenor is among the most instantly recognizable voices in popular music today.
The singer/songwriter is a founding member of Barenaked Ladies with whom he toured the globe and sold millions of albums.
In March 2018, Steven Page, and former bandmates Barenaked Ladies, were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards.
Steven continues his artistic evolution with a diverse array of solo projects.
To that end, he has composed six Stratford Festival scores, collaborated and toured with Toronto’s innovative Art of Time ensemble, is a member of the Trans-Canada Highwaymen and has journeyed across North America as host of TV’s The Illegal Eater – all while continuing to write, release and perform his original music.
In September of 2019, Steven released his new album entitled DISCIPLINE: HEAL THYSELF PT. 2 and is currently on a national tour.

Marta Czurylowicz
Marta Czurylowicz is a content creator and reporter at The Weather Network and has been the host of Canada’s Ukrainian channel, KONTAKT, for more than a decade. Along with hosting the weekly program, she remains closely connected with her Ukrainian roots.
She taught and performed traditional dance at Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School. She served as a Canadian election observer for both the presidential elections in May 2014 and the parliamentary elections in October 2014.
She has hosted numerous events including Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival; Rock, Reforms and Relief: A Weekend for Ukraine; Soyuzivka’s Cultural Festival; and the Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion at Folklorama in Winnipeg. Marta has worked at Canadian news outlets, including Sun News Network, CTV News in Winnipeg and CTV News in Kitchener. Marta attended Cawthra Park School of the Arts where she majored in drama and graduated with an Arts Diploma. She hold a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University. Currently, Marta teaches part-time at Conestoga College in the Broadcasting Performance and Digital Media program.
